Local Food Policy Councils

Food Policy Councils are forming across the nation as a way to address policies that affect healthy food access, community gardens and urban farms, healthy school lunches and local and regional food systems. Ohio currently has approximately eleven active local councils, the highest number of local councils in any state in our nation.

Food Policy Coalition of Summit County

Our local food policy council just celebrated its first birthday!  The mission of this young group is to improve healthy food access for all Summit County residents and spur economic opportunities for existing and beginning farmers. There are four active committees: Healthy Food Access/Farm to School; Micro-Enterprises; Education and Marketing; Community Gardens and Land Access.

We welcome anyone in the community who feels strongly about these issues and wants to get involved.
